What Do Bakers Do On Their Day Off?

They watch their garden grow.
Garden

They beg their roses to bloom.

They make homemade ice cream.
Banana ice cream

Then they eat it.
All gone

They read other people's blogs!
Here's an interview with the delightful Julia
from A Slice of Cherry Pie

And they wish they could be Molly
of the beautifully written Orangette.

They search for recipes. As if they didn't have enough already.

They read books! OK, they read cookbooks.

And unbelievably, THEY BAKE!
Artisan Bread in Five Minutes a Day

A good vacation is over when you begin to yearn for your work. ~Morris Fishbein

It's nice to have a day off. But I know I love baking when, even on my days off, I can't stay out of the kitchen.

Your garden, ice cream and bread look great, Granny!! Now I wanna make ice cream. What do you think of that bread book? I do those online surveys where you earn points and can get merchandise, and there are lots of cookbooks to chose from- that one is among them.

You must reach your "alpha zone" when you bake or are in the kitchen...the point where you're engaging your passion with no awareness of the passage of time. Great to read more from you!

Thanks HoneyB, Vinty, & Lobs!

Dishy I like the book so far but am not convinced I have to have it.

JPee, great insight on the alpha zone! Happens on the computer too :)

Granny - You are awesome! I wish you were closer so I could sample some of those delectable looking things you bake. :) Because, I'm a cook, not a baker!
